The Severn Counties Foreign & British Bird Society was established in April 1972 and was formed to enable people who enjoy keeping and breeding British and Foreign birds, the opportunity to get together to exchange views with others interested in the same hobby. The main focus of the society has been and continues to be, that it is a friendly society and everyone is welcome. With this in mind, it was decided early in the society’s conception that the spouse/partner of a member joining would automatically become a member and the full family would be welcome to attend the meetings. The meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Methodist Hall, Down Road, Winterbourne Down, Bristol. The society also has an extensive library of bird related books and video’s which may be used by the members and are available at each meeting. The members are aware that there are many people who are not so well off as themselves and so a great effort goes into raising funds to help others.
